MADE organic cotton products use Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified cotton. The GOTS certification guarantees that the fibers used were produced under a certain set of environmental & labor standards, in accordance with the International Labor Organization.
Organic cotton is grown without the use of GM seeds or toxic chemicals. This promotes healthier soil, water and air conditions which benefit the farmers, their communities and wildlife. The farming of conventional cotton typically uses toxic chemicals for pesticides and defoliation. The production of organic cotton uses 91% less water and 61% less energy to produce in comparison to conventional cotton.
MADE recycled polyester products use Global Recycle Standard (GRS) certified cotton. The GRS certification guarantees that the fibers used were produced under a certain set of environmental & labor standards, in accordance with the International Labor Organization.
This polyester fiber is made from post-consumer plastic bottles in a process that requires much less energy and resources than conventional polyester. Using recycled plastic lessens our need for petroleum, a non-renewable resource, and diverts plastic trash from landfills.
All of the dye houses producing MADE fabrics have a waste water processing system that ensures that no chemicals are let out into the environment. A portion of our fabrics are dyed in GOTS, GRS and OEKO-TEX® certified facilities, but we are in the process of transitioning all of our production to certified dyeing mills.
All of the manufacturing facilities sewing MADE garments are third party audited to ensure safe and fair working conditions. A large portion of MADE products are manufactured in GOTS & GRS certified facilities.
Every ingredient of each MADE product is sourced and tested to ensure the highest quality. For every production run the yarn is tested for tensile strength before it is approved to make the fabric. Once dyed, the fabric is closely tested to meet our high standards for colorfastness, pilling and stability. Once the garment is finished, it is undergoes a multi-point inspection and stability test.
